Happytreefriends is a Canadian flash cartoon series created by Mondo Mini Shows, starring anthropomorphic animal characters who are prone to severe and often bloody accidents. The series has been described as "the most twisted cartoon on the air today".
The series debuted in 1999 with two internet shorts, "Can We Fix It?" and "Sweet Ride". These were followed by a pilot episode, "If You're So Smart, Why Aren't You Rich?", and the first official episode, "Let's Get Cookin'".
Since its inception, Happytreefriends has aired on numerous television networks around the world, including MTV, G4, Cartoon Network, Teletoon, and Nickelodeon. The series has been released on DVD and Blu-ray, and is also available for digital download.
In each episode, extremely bloody and gory accidents befall the cute and unsuspecting animal characters. Some episodes feature special guests, such as real-life animals or pop culture icons.
While the tone of Happytreefriends is light-hearted, the show is extremely violent, with particularly gory deaths being a frequent occurrence. This has led to the show being banned in some countries, and censored in others.
Despite the violent content, Happytreefriends has been praised for its dark humor, clever writing, and beautiful animation.
